First look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Samsung's Galaxy Tab with iGadgets

The Samsung Galaxy Tab, pictured between Apple's iPad and iPhone, will fit in a jacket pocket or small handbag.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab, which is a phone, an e-reader, a camera and, well, just about everything else you could want in a handheld computing device, has arrived in Australia (though it’s tricky to get your hands on right now as the phone companies are still working out their plans for it).

We’ve spent a few days with it and reckon it’s the best gadget for reading straight mono books on the market right now, if only because you can use it for email, Twitter, Facebook, Borders, Amazon, PressReader, WordPress, contacts, calendar, shooting video, making phone calls using a headset and more, yet it fits in a jacket pocket or small handbag.

It’s expensive, though, at $999 outright, so you’ll want to consider a plan – Optus and Vodafone have announced theirs, but Telstra is yet to come out with its alternatives.

We’ll post a longer review including details of the telcos’ plans next week.
