All major Australian publishers now issue new titles as ebooks simultaneously with the print edition as a matter of course. Most are gradually working through the digitisation of key backlist titles.
The Australian Publishers Association has run a series of seminars and events to encourage its members to embrace new technologies.
Some smaller publishers have been faster to develop digital strategies than others. SPUNC, the representative body for small presses, has worked hard to assist those keen to enter the ebook fray.
There are a handful of start-ups building digital only or digital first lists too. Pan Macmillan offshoot Momentum is one, Spineless Wonders is another.
